Hello everyone! My name is Richie Gray, and I am the Gil Internship Manager for the Fall 2025 cohort. I had the pleasure of visiting Lepage Associates during the Fall 2025 semester. Lepage Associates is a multi-speciality private practice that offers a wide range of psychological and psychiatric services for both adults and children. These services include psychotherapy, psychoeducation, testing & assessments, forensic evaluations, and much more.
Â
Lepage Associates' office is located in Durham, NC. Once I arrived, I was greeted by Dr. Nicole Bassil and our Gil intern, D'Shawn Thomas, who is working at Lepage Associates this semester. I was given a brief tour and met individually with Dr. Bassil to discuss the wide array of services provided by Lepage Associates. From providing psychotherapy to a diverse range of individuals facing unique challenges to consulting and offering expert testimony in court, Lepage Associates is a truly unique and supportive private practice that delivers the highest-quality psychological services and exceptional customer care to the Triangle area.
Â
After my brief meeting with Dr. Bassil, I met individually with D'Shawn to talk about his internship experience. D'Shawn is completing his clinical psychology internship and has assisted Lepage Associates in many different tasks. D'Shawn goes into great detail about his responsibilities at Lepage Associates in his blog post, but I will highlight a few that stand out.
Â
D'Shawn assists clinicians with ongoing cases by researching and creating relevant psychologically-focused repositories to be referenced throughout a client's treatment. For example, D'Shawn created a document highlighting the various sports psychology-focused therapeutic approaches to help overcome cognitive overload during an athlete's performance. Moreover, D'Shawn researches and examines commonly utilized assessments by clinicians, noting any specific considerations clinicians should be aware of. For example, D'Shawn analyzed assessment profiles from the Wechsler and Woodcock–Johnson batteries in gifted children with ADHD, focusing on cognitive asymmetries. The research D'Shawn conducted about these assessments highlighted the importance of a multi-method assessment—combining behavioral observations, history, and targeted ADHD measures—to avoid diagnostic overshadowing. Finally, D'Shawn impressively coauthored a manuscript with Dr. Tina Lepage, which examined the psychological and sociocultural intersections of anger, hate, and family law proceedings. This work aimed to bridge clinical insight with policy implications, underscoring emotion’s role in justice and reconciliation.
Â
D'Shawn works a hybrid schedule that is both intensive and rewarding. Future Gil Interns interested in Lepage Associates as a worksite can expect an enriching hands-on experience, where an intern can learn the responsibilities of a clinician and receive invaluable advice on what it is like to work in the field of clinical psychology.
Â
I was incredibly impressed by not only D'Shawn's work but also by the overall work conducted and the goals of everyone at Lepage Associates. We thank Dr. Tina Lepage and Dr. Nicole Bassil for mentoring and supporting D'Shawn. The Gil team is proud to have a partnership with such a fine worksite as Lepage Associates, and we hope future Gil Interns can further contribute to this amazing private practice, just as D'Shawn has done!
